Broadcaster Guide

Everything you need to know about setting up and managing your radio station on Kastly.

Become a Broadcaster

Any registered Kastly user can apply to become a broadcaster. Once approved, you'll have access to a full dashboard for managing your station, personalities, schedules, and more.

Submitting a Station Request

To get your station on Kastly, you'll need to submit a station request:

  1. Sign in to your Kastly account.
  2. Navigate to Broadcaster > My Requests.
  3. Click Submit New Request.
  4. Fill in your station details: name, description, category, and stream URL.
  5. Provide contact information so our team can reach you if needed.
  6. Submit your request for review.
Approval Process

After submitting your station request, here's what to expect:

  • Review - Our team reviews each request to ensure it meets our content guidelines.
  • Verification - We verify your stream URL is accessible and broadcasting properly.
  • Notification - You'll receive an email notification when your station is approved or if we need additional information.
  • Timeline - Most requests are reviewed within 24-48 hours.
Tips for faster approval

Include a complete description of your station, ensure your stream URL is working and publicly accessible, and choose the most appropriate category for your content.

Managing Your Station

Once approved, your broadcaster dashboard gives you full control:

  • Dashboard overview - See listener stats, recent activity, and station health at a glance.
  • Station settings - Update your station name, description, logo, category, and social links.
  • Analytics - Track listeners, peak times, device types, and stream quality metrics.
  • Multiple stations - Manage multiple stations from a single account.
Adding Personalities

Showcase your on-air talent by adding personality profiles:

  • Create profiles - Add personalities with name, bio, photo, and role.
  • Social links - Connect their social media profiles (Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, website, email).
  • Phone numbers - Add studio or request line phone numbers.
  • Station assignment - Assign personalities to specific stations.
Creating Schedules

Keep your listeners informed about what's on and when:

  • Weekly schedule - Set up recurring shows with day, start time, and end time.
  • Assign personalities - Link shows to on-air personalities.
  • Show details - Add show names and descriptions.
  • Timezone handling - Schedules display in the listener's local timezone.
Embedding Your Station

Add your station's player to any website using the embed widget:

  • Embed code generator - Use the Embed Widget section on your station's detail page to generate embed code with a live preview.
  • Two embed formats - Choose between a simple iframe tag or a JS snippet that auto-creates the player.
  • Customization - Set the player size (compact, standard, or large), theme (light or dark), accent color, and autoplay behavior.
  • Live preview - See exactly how the embedded player will look before copying the code.
  • Copy to clipboard - One-click copy for pasting into your website's HTML.
Tip

The JS snippet method is easiest — just paste the two-line snippet into your page and it handles everything automatically, including responsive sizing.

Domain Restrictions

Control which websites are allowed to embed your station's player:

  • Open by default - When no domains are configured, your embed works on any website.
  • Domain allowlist - Toggle domain restrictions on and add specific domains that are permitted to embed your player.
  • Wildcard support - Use *.example.com to allow all subdomains of a domain.
  • Unauthorized access - Websites not on your allowlist will see a branded message directing listeners to your Kastly station page.
Important

If you enable domain restrictions but don't add any domains, the embed will be blocked on all external websites. Always add at least one domain after enabling restrictions.

Stream Configuration

Configure your station's streaming setup:

  • Primary stream - Your main streaming URL that listeners will connect to.
  • Backup stream - An optional fallback stream for redundancy.
  • Supported formats - MP3, AAC, and AAC+ streams are supported.
  • Quality settings - Configure bitrate and quality tier labels for your streams.
  • Health monitoring - Kastly monitors your stream health and alerts you to connectivity issues.
Important

Your stream URL must be publicly accessible for listeners to connect. Private or firewall-protected streams will not work on Kastly.
