Install Kastly App

Kastly works as an installable app on your phone, tablet, or computer — no app store needed. Get quick access to live radio right from your home screen.

What is the Kastly App?

Kastly is a Progressive Web App (PWA) — a website that can be installed directly to your device and used like a regular app. It launches in its own window, works offline, and gives you lock-screen audio controls. There is no download from the App Store or Google Play required.

Install on Android

Kastly works best on Google Chrome for Android. You can also use Microsoft Edge or Samsung Internet.

  1. Open kastly.live in Chrome on your Android phone or tablet.
  2. Wait about 30 seconds — a blue banner will appear at the bottom of the screen saying "Install Kastly for quick access to live radio."
  3. Tap Install, then tap Install again on the confirmation dialog.
  4. Kastly will be added to your home screen. Tap the icon to open it — it will launch in its own full-screen window without the browser address bar.
Alternative method

If the banner doesn't appear, tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in Chrome's top-right corner, then tap "Install app" or "Add to Home screen".

For more details, see Google's guide: Install a Progressive Web App on Chrome for Android

Install on iPhone & iPad

On iPhone and iPad, you install Kastly through Safari. Other browsers like Chrome on iOS do not support installing apps to the home screen.

  1. Open kastly.live in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square icon with an upward arrow) at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll down in the share menu and tap "Add to Home Screen".
  4. Tap Add in the top-right corner. You can also change the name if you prefer.
  5. Kastly will appear on your home screen. Tap the icon to open it in full-screen mode.
Known limitations on iOS
Apple's iOS has some limitations for installed web apps:
  • The install banner will not appear automatically — you must use the Share menu method described above.
  • Background audio may stop when you switch to another app or lock the screen in some iOS versions.
  • Push notifications are supported on iOS 16.4 and later, but Kastly does not use push notifications yet.

Install on Desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux)

Use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on your computer. Firefox does not support installing web apps.

  1. Open kastly.live in Chrome or Edge.
  2. Look for the install icon in the address bar — it looks like a monitor with a down arrow (Chrome) or a plus icon (Edge).
  3. Click the icon, then click Install on the confirmation dialog.
  4. Kastly will open in its own standalone window, just like a desktop application. You can find it in your Start menu (Windows), Applications folder (Mac), or app launcher (Linux).

Install from the Kastly Menu

If you are signed in to Kastly, you can install the app directly from the navigation menu:

  1. Sign in to your Kastly account.
  2. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner to open the menu.
  3. Tap "Install App" — this option only appears in Chrome or Edge when the app has not already been installed.
Lock Screen & Notification Controls

When you are listening to a station, Kastly shows media controls on your lock screen and in your device's notification area — just like a native music or podcast app.

  • Station info — The station name and logo appear in the notification.
  • Now playing — If the station broadcasts song or show metadata, the title and artist will be displayed.
  • Play / Pause — Tap the controls to pause or resume the stream without opening the app.
Best support on Android

Lock screen controls work best on Android with Chrome. On iPhone, lock screen controls have limited support and may not display station artwork in all iOS versions.

Using Kastly Offline

Kastly includes offline support so you can still browse previously visited stations and take actions even without an internet connection.

  • Offline indicator — When your device loses internet connectivity, a yellow banner appears at the top of the page letting you know you are offline.
  • Cached station data — Stations you have visited while online will still display their basic information (name, description, schedule, personalities) when you are offline.
  • Follow stations offline — You can follow or unfollow stations while offline. Your changes will be automatically synced when you reconnect.
  • Back online notification — When your connection is restored, a brief "Back online!" message confirms you are reconnected.
Live streaming requires internet

Audio streaming requires an active internet connection. If your connection drops while listening, Kastly will automatically try to reconnect the stream up to 3 times. If you are offline for a longer period, it will reconnect as soon as your internet returns.

Keeping the App Updated

Kastly updates automatically in the background. When a new version is available, you will see a notification at the bottom of the screen saying "A new version of Kastly is available."

  • Tap Refresh to update immediately. The page will reload with the latest version.
  • Tap the X to dismiss the notification and continue using the current version. You will be prompted again on your next visit.
No manual updates needed

Unlike apps from the App Store or Google Play, Kastly does not require manual updates. New features and fixes are delivered automatically through the web.

Following Stations While Offline

You can follow or unfollow stations even when you do not have an internet connection:

  1. Tap the Follow button on any station page — the button will update immediately.
  2. Your action is saved locally on your device.
  3. When your internet connection returns, Kastly automatically syncs your follow/unfollow actions with the server.

Troubleshooting
I don't see the install banner
  • Make sure you are using Chrome or Edge — Safari and Firefox do not show the install banner.
  • On iPhone, use the Share > Add to Home Screen method in Safari instead.
  • If you previously dismissed the banner, it will not appear again. Try the browser menu method or the "Install App" option in your Kastly profile menu.
  • If the app is already installed, the banner will not appear.
Audio stops when I lock my phone
  • On Android, audio should continue playing in the background. Make sure you are using Chrome and that battery optimization is not killing the app.
  • On iPhone, background audio in web apps has limited support. Try keeping Safari open in the background rather than using the installed app. See Apple's web app documentation for current limitations.
The stream keeps disconnecting
  • Kastly will automatically try to reconnect up to 3 times when the stream drops.
  • If your connection is unstable (for example, switching between Wi-Fi and cellular), the stream may briefly pause and resume.
  • On a very slow connection, the stream may take a moment to buffer before resuming.
I can't find the "Install App" menu option
  • You must be signed in to see this option.
  • The menu item only appears in Chrome or Edge.
  • If Kastly is already installed, the option will not appear.
